Recovery refers to recovery therapy. In the year 2000, the word, “recovery” was not used in regard to paralysis from spinal cord injury Thanks to the forward thinking of University Medical Center Brackenridge with funding from the Lone Star Paralysis Foundation, a third piece is now available – trauma, rehabilitation, and now recovery. Recovery therapy patients undergo an intensive 3 month therapy regimen featuring the latest high-tech equipment to stimulate and strengthen muscles, improve cardiovascular function, and retrain movement. Some have regained their ability to walk, almost everyone benefits from meaningful improvement. Thanks in part to the success of the Recovery program at UMC Brackenridge, recovery programs are springing up across the country.
